SchlummerMärchen: A bedtime routine for little dreamers
By Jens Martsch · published on

Why a bedtime routine matters so much
Be honest: does this sound familiar? Your child is wide awake while you have practically melted into the sofa? A well-planned evening routine can help both of you reach bedtime feeling better. Think of it as a cosy train leaving for dreamland at the same time each evening. And the best part: first-class seats are included!
Researchers have found that a regular bedtime routine can help children12:
- Fall asleep more easily, without calling “Mum!” a hundred times.
- Sleep better through the night, giving everyone more rest.
- Concentrate better during the day because they are more rested.3
A bedtime routine: Your timetable to dreamland
Phase 1: Slowing down (around 30–45 minutes before bed)
- Put toys away together.
- Choose quiet activities such as drawing or puzzles.
- Dim the lights a little to support melatonin production.
Phase 2: Getting ready (15–20 minutes)
- Head to the bathroom: brush teeth, wash faces and make a final toilet visit.
- Put on cosy pyjamas.
- Leave a small glass of water ready for the night.
Phase 3: Magical story time
Now comes the part everyone loves: story time! This is where our little tip comes in: personalised SchlummerMärchen.
Our AI-generated stories put your child at the centre of their own adventure. As well as being exciting, this offers some useful benefits:
- The story is tailored to your child.
- New adventures each evening bring variety.
- Audio narration gives tired parents a break when they need one.
Tips for your evening routine
Allow enough time: Plan the routine so you do not have to rush. Parents' stress can easily affect their children.
Stay flexible: Sometimes things do not go to plan, and that is okay. Even little adventurers have difficult days.
Be consistent: A similar routine each day gives children reassurance and a sense of what comes next.
Use technology thoughtfully: Our audio narration can be helpful on particularly tiring days, offering a gentle, patient voice.
Creating together helps the evening settle
If your little whirlwind cannot settle down, let them help shape their own story. With our story generator, you can choose together:
- Which adventures to have.
- Which magical creatures appear — perhaps a friendly dragon?
- Where the story takes place.
Bedtime becomes a creative process that can help your child relax and prepare for the night.
A good evening routine is worth its weight in gold
A relaxed routine with a personalised story can feel like a ticket to dreamland. It offers children reassurance and gives parents a structure for the evening.
Plan your routine, stay consistent but caring, and let our personalised stories support you. At the end of the day, there is nothing quite like a peacefully sleeping child and parents enjoying a well-earned rest. 🌙
